Kooking with Ken - Apple Cider

This Apple Cider not only provides a festive holiday drink, but also fills your home with smells of spice.

1 gallon apple cider
4 cinnamon sticks (3 inch)
1 ½ teaspoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 naval orange sliced
1 lemon sliced
1 cup rum (optional)
  1. In 6 quart saucepan, heat everything except rum to boiling. Over high heat.
  2. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer about 45 minutes.
  3. If using rum, heat but do not boil.
  4. Pour through sieve into a heat safe punch bowl.
  5. Discard spices and fruit slices.
  6. Serve hot cider in warm cups.
