This is my Aunt's recipe. She died at 99.

3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup shortening
3 medium apples
3 teaspoons brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts, pecans or walnuts - optional

  1. Mix like a pie crust from first three items. Add water if necessary.
  2. Roll out, not to thin.
  3. Mix apples and both sugars.
  4. Optional, chopped nuts.
  5. Place apples/sugar mix on crust and roll up.
  6. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top.
  7. Place on a cookie sheet. Bake 1 hour at 350.

Can substitute cottage cheese for filling to make a cheese strudel.
